| Web Site Business Plan |
Question:
I work for a retail swimwear business
and am trying to convince my employer
to put the business on the internet.
I was trying to develop a business
plan for the web site, but am not
having much luck. I have been to hundreds
of sites that offer assistance/templates
software/samples but NONE are specific
to developing a web site. Would anyone
know of a site where I could find
a sample web site business plan,
Answer:
Most business
plans
on the web are business
plans
not advertising and web development
plans.
If you need a template to follow,
type the KEYWORDS you will want users
to find your site into the major search
engines and visit the top ten returns
of each. These returns will probably
include competitors. Look to see how
their sites are designed and formatted.
I am assuming
that your retail
sales will take priority? Depending
on the amount of items you choose
to sell you may want a shopping cart
that will help users to navigate through
the store and choose items.
I think
what you need to do is follow a theme
like "all about swimming".
Have large amounts of content that
will bring readers back to your site.
You would be well advised to put out
a newsletter. This is your "opt-in"
gold list. These are people who have
chosen to receive regular updates
from you. Try to make it informative
and entertaining.
Message
boards are good for web sites too.
When others read how well your product
has been received you are likely to
find more buyers. It is also a great
way to post company information and
receive customer feedback.
These
are simply my ideas. I still think
your best bet is to look to see what
kind of sites your competition has.
As you will be marketing to the same
crowd, you may want to design your
site in a similar fashion as to keep
customers comfortable.
EX: If they use FRAMES, you use them
too. If all the navigation is provided
by left-hand column buttons then you
do the same, etc
