| Finding A Real Business Plan, And A Good One... |
Question:
I have searched all over the Internet
for good plans
and haven't found anything that I
like. This includes the MootCorp
competition plans
and any plans
created using business
plan software such as Business
Plan Pro (bplans.com).
Are there any actual plans
that have been used in the past that
people are willing to distribute or
could be purchased? Would it
be easier to get just one section
of a plan, such as the Operations
Plan, than to try and get an entire
plan? Do VC firms give plans
out to other entrepreneurs who simply
want a sample plan?
Answer:
It's probably not fair, but the ability
to create a well written business
plan is part of qualifying for venture
capital and increases the odds on
your being successful without funding.
What's most important, is how
well you can put into words where
your company is headed and why it's
going to be profitable.
When you try to rework an existing
plan (even if it was very successful),
almost every time it ends up unrealistic
and a good reader can spot the shift
in writing style. Then it gets
tossed aside because it is not a true
representation of your understanding
and plans
for your company.
All you need to know is what should
appear in each section of a well organized
business
plan. After that, your words
need to be in there. If you
have trouble doing that, then you
don't have your business
defined well enough and its chances
of success are reduced.
