Question:
can anybody help with a copy of
a successful business
Plan and/or related software for
a coffee
house venture?
Answer:
If you are asking someone else for
their business
plan that they have spent a long
time developing and innovating,
I am afraid that you are on the
wrong track. However, there
are many "Consultants"
that could possibly help you in
this area. In my opinion,
if you need a consultant for enough
to pay them what they ask, perhaps
you should consider another field,
and merle enjoy coffee,
rather than attempt to make a living
at it. If you do insist on
pursuing this venture, I would recommend
checking the business
section at your local B&N, Hastings,
Borders, Walden, or various other
book stores that have a wide selection
of the information that you are
seeking. What you are asking
for is, someone to give you their
original or implemented ideas. My
best overall advice, do your research.
I apologize if this seemed offensive.
I am attempting to get into
the business, and am in the business.
I can not offer this gentleman
my business plan and I know what
I went through to develop it. It
would hold true for most of the
others in this group that do work
in the business as well. Since
I can not help him, I gave him the
same sources that I used to find
my information. Even if this
gentleman is willing to pay for
the information, I would still be
unable to help him, because I plan
to use all of my ideas to their
fullest extent. This is why
I recommended a consultant. I
do not believe in consultants, nor
would I pay for one. You can
get all of the information that
they offer by spending a little
time looking for it. It was
hard for me to not give him the
business plan, because I believe
heavily in the sharing of information.
I wish him all the luck in
the world. I do not like to
see anyone fail, especially in concerning
the coffee business, but I have
seen it many times. A business
will open, and aim their business
incorrectly, or not pitch to the
proper market, bad product, etc.
Mainly inexperience will be
the root of most downfalls in a
business. The chamber of commerce
has a lot of very good information
that will help him far more than
I ever could, as well as, the SBA,
which works in league with SCORE.
SCORE will be also beneficial
in a consulting fashion. They
will be able to tell you, from experience,
if you have a successful idea, if
you don't, and how you should change
it. Again, I apologize.
You want a
format of business
plans?
Most libraries will have a few books
on the subject. To read someone
else's would not add much to your
venture. I used a consultant in
setting up my coffee
house and roastery and it was one
of the best investments I made.
Saved me a ton of effort and money
in not making mistakes that somebody
else had made and paid for before.
Don't bother with one that also
sells equipment. I've made that
mistake before getting one that
didn't have a vested interest in
any particular equipment. Don't
get too much ego wrapped up in the
plan like many do. It's just a tool
to help you along the way. If it
is more than 8 or so pages long
you probably have too much time
and energy in it for the reality
of small business.
I'd recommend "Bean Business
Basics" by Ed Arvidson and
Bruce Milletto as a very good text.
I still refer to it regularly. They
have very good formats for business
plans,
operational plans,
etc.
