Question:
Does anyone have a business
continuity plan in place??
If for instance a fire destroys the
building and all the content in it.
What's the plan to keep the business
going
Answer:
I suspect you are asking specifically
about your SBS server and workstations.
But hardware is only one portion of
such a plan. A lot depends on the
area that your business serves. If
it's medical, legal or financial --
there may be a whole set of requirements
you may need to consider and/or address.
In general, you need to identify who's
responsible, review business and risk
analysis, make assessment, and then
generate procedures. You need to document
everything, and keep a copy of the
documentation offsite.
As to your computer systems, you need
to establish vendor (hardware, software)
contact, identify equipment for insurance
policies and replacement, maintain
offsite storage of backups, etc.
It has been said that if a business
suffers a major disaster, and they
are not back and operational in a
very short period of time (2-3 days),
that the chances are high that that
they will not be in operation/existence
within a year.
