| Business Plan Template For LaTeX? |
Question:
Does anyone have or know of a business
plan template for LaTeX? I tried CTAN
and Google with no luck. Google groups
turned up two similar questions, one
in '95 and the other in '99, with
no replies.
Answer:
What kind of a business plan do you
think of? There are many incarnations,
depending on the nature and size of
business and the intended readership.
Is it a one man sandwich bar which
requires 3000USD venture capital,
or is it a biotech startup with 56
employees and equipment for the same
figure in millions USD, or is it the
yearly business plan for the annual
BoD meeting of an established share
holder's company that has to fulfill
US GAAP requirements?
I had once the idea of writing a BoD
meeting protocol generator with most
of the typical resolutions a templates
but later gave up because so many
companies have their individual idiosyncrasies
that you can set up these template
for one company but virtually not
for *all* companies.
I'm trying to stay away from the ostensive
ease of MS Word. My initial plan would
be small (they usually are), but would
grow as the business
shapes itself.
Keep in mind that most business
starts are small and start with either
owner funding or a SBA-guaranteed
loan (in the US). This would make
the greater part of the userbase small
business
founders (with little money). From
what I know, less than 1% of new businesses
are started with venture funding (of
course this information comes out
of a 1990 management book from my
local library). I'm guessing
that the microscopic userbase and
low-tech of most new business
founders has not provided the seed
for someone to write a generic template.
And I really do mean generic if someone
is really trying to start a new business
venture, the layout of the plan should
be simple and to the point with few
variations. That businessperson is
interested in getting the business
off the ground, and a business
plan is generally not a public document
meaning that it doesn't need to be
pretty it needs to be clear and readable.
When that small business
grows enough to afford it, they can
hire a design firm to make pretty
graphics for it :)
