Question:
How do I find information on setting
up and running a wine bar? How do
I find the pros and cons of tied tendency
with a brewery? How do I receive financial
help with any aspect of running a
wine bar or public house? E.g. Brewery
backing and help. Including management
training for myself and staff. Pit
falls of running a non tied Wine bar
as a business.
Answer:
Speaking purely from the point of
view of normal business
your questions imply that you absolutely
should not be going into the wine
bar
game. If you knew enough to do it
you would not be asking those questions
- you would either know the answers,
or be asking much tighter questions
( such as seeking views as to the
pros and cons of different chains
etc from a business
point of view).
You need to start off by learning
the business
from the ground up ( a HOTCAT course?
Management Trainee / junior management?
As to finance, this is an area I know
about and basically there are two
rules. Use your own money, or use
other peoples. If planning to use
other peoples the thing that will
most interest them is not your business
plan ( which will always show great
riches, as is the way of business
plans),
but you, and the fact that you can
clearly deliver, have the skills and
experience etc etc needed. If you
lack your own money and do not have
the background then you are unlikely
to be running a wine bar
in the near future.
